Cyber Crime Police Station

cyber-crimeCyber Crime Police Stations have been set up with the aim of investigating any crimes that comes under the Information technology Act. The first Cyber Crime Police Station of Kerala was in Thiruvananthapuram. This office is under the control of the Superintendent of Police and Inspector General of Police of State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB). The overall control is by the ADGP.

The cases are not directly registered in the Cyber Crime Police Station. The cyber crime cases are registered normally in the local Police Station. If the case requires the need of Cyber Forensic techniques then such cases are referred to the Cyber Crime Police Station. They then continue the investigation further.

There is a Hi-Tech cell that is the “Petition Enquiry Branch” of the Cyber Police Station and deals with the cyber activities. Cases which include petitions for theft of mobile phones or abusing through phones are dealt by the District/City Cyber Crime Enquiry Cells and Hi-Tech Cell. In certain situations, the cases are directly registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station. This happens under the order of IG or ADGP of SCRB and includes those cases which require cyber analysis.
