Athirapally waterfalls are located in the Sholayar range and are a part of the Chalakudi River. It is the largest waterfall in Kerala. This waterfall is at a height of 80 feet and lies in the forest area. The water cascades from this height and joins with the Chalakudi River. The water flows through the high ranges and then crashes through the gorges. The picturesque here is a mixture of calm as well as wild and natural. The Vazhachal waterfall which is also a part of the river is near to the Athirapally waterfalls. Even though Vazhachal is not as beautiful as Athirapally, it has its own beauty. They lie at a distance of 5 m apart from each other. This waterfall is a favorite shooting location of many film directors and is seen in many films.
